With St. Patrick’s Day being in the month of March, one of of Cory’s school assignments was to build a Leprechaun Trap with supplies found around the house. Since I am not very good at these kinds of tasks (hands-on projects that need to be created and built with moving parts), I more than happily passed off the responsibility of helping Cory to Rudy. He is much more proficient at these things since he possesses an engineering mind.
They used toothpicks, popsicle sticks, glue, masking tape, rubber bands, floss, nails, picture hanging hoops and other household items to create their masterpiece. Once the trap was built, I helped Cory decorate it kindergarten style.
I love the leprechaun sign that Cory drew for the side of his trap.
When the project was finished, Cory was to briefly write about how it works. I adore seeing how little kids brains process and explain things.
“First the leprechaun eats the candy harts. Then he jumps on the spoon to get the gold coin. Then the cup capturs the leprechaun.”
Rudy can now add to his resume that he has helped create and build two leprechaun traps since he helped Keri make one four years ago when she was in kindergarten.

what a fun project!
That is SO stinking cool that his class is doing that, Laura! I love the creativity and the “find stuff around the house idea”.
I’m such a thrower-outer, it’s always hard when my kids want a craft done with house-hold things!…read: dig-thru-garbage cans!
C looks so proud. And he should be.
BTW: love that you are bloggin’ now…
xo
Okay, that is such a cool idea I’m tempted to do it with my kids (Spring Break this week). But then, it looks like a lot of work so maybe I’ll just admire Rudy and Cory’s handiwork. =D
Very awesome! You kids all built Leprechaun traps when you were in Kindergarten!
Did Cory catch any leprechauns?
Love it! My first-grader had that assignment this year, too. So much fun.
