“Patience permits us to cling to our faith in the Lord when we are tossed about by suffering as if by surf. When the undertow grasps us we will realize that we are somehow being carried forward even as we tumble. We are actually being helped even as we cry for help.” ~ Neal A. Maxwell
“Patience is tied very closely to faith in our Heavenly Father. Actually, when we are unduly impatient, we are suggesting that we know what is best—better than does God. Or, at least, we are asserting that our timetable is better than His. We can grow in faith only if we are willing to wait patiently for God’s purposes and patterns to unfold in our lives, on His timetable.” ~ Neal A. Maxwell
“Patience is a willingness, in a sense, to watch the unfolding purposes of God with a sense of wonder and awe, rather than pacing up and down within the cell of our circumstance.” ~ Neal A Maxwell
“Sometimes that which we are doing is correct enough but simply needs to be persisted in patiently, not for a minute or a moment but sometimes for years. Paul speaks of the marathon of life and of how we must ‘run with patience the race that is set before us’ (Hebrews 12:1). Paul did not select the hundred-meter dash for his analogy!” ~ Neal A. Maxwell

Patience is a hard virtue for me to grasp.

Oh, how I needed this reminder this week. The quotes are perfect! Amazing how patience applies in almost every trial. I hope you are granted the patience you need at this time… Love you!
I lost patience today in a big, big way. A shouting kind of way, and I’m weary from it now. Reading this was healing in a way – thank you so much!
This is my favorite patience quote … also from Neal A. Maxwell:
“Throughout scripture we encounter the need for us to remember that the Lord has His own timetable for unfolding things; it will not always accord with our schedules or our wants. When, in our extremities, we urgently call for a divine response, there may be, instead, a divine delay. This is not because God, at the moment, is inattentive or loves us less than perfectly. Rather, it is because we are being asked, at the moment, to endure more for the welfare of our souls. The blessed meek understand that God loves them even when they may not be able to explain the meaning of what is happening to them or around them.” Neal A. Maxwell
Aaaaaamen.
There are days when I despair of every getting some. I feel like I’m in the fire, having to learn it the hard way. But oh how good I feel when I am patient.
Awesome post!
Neal A. Maxwell is so poetic. I needed to read these. Patience, it seems, has been a lesson that HF has been wanting to teach me for the past few months. It’s a hard one much of the time but a necessary one.
Sometimes that which we are doing is correct enough but simply needs to be persisted in patiently, not for a minute or a moment but sometimes for years.
I think this quote is an answer to my prayers — it’s so frustrating when there are weaknesses that seem to keep coming up, but perhaps (like Elder Maxwell said) I just need to be patient in tackling it realizing that it may take years to conquer instead of days.
