September is easily my favorite month of the year.
I relish the hot summery days the beginning of the month typically brings. And even though they might be warm, they never seem to be unbearably hot.
Labor Day is also a wonderful time for end-of-the-season delicious tasting BBQ’s, especially when you can relax and enjoy the outdoors with fantabulous friends and family.
September, for me, is also the month which signals the start of a new school year. As a child I always anticipated this special time with much delight. I loved wondering who my new teacher would be. I loved going to the store and picking out a few new outfits and possibly a new lunch box. I loved getting all my new school supplies organized and in order. I loved wondering about all the new kids I would meet. I loved this time of the year so much that I would often gather up all the picture books in my house that told stories about kids beginning a new school year and I would curl up on my bed and devour them.
As a mother I still love how September signals the start of another new school year, but of course I now fancy it for different reasons.
September, to me, also symbolizes new beginnings. I often think it would be better if we made our New Year’s resolutions now instead of in January. Setting goals just seems better suited for this time of year.
And of course, September also ushers in my all time favorite season, Autumn.
Crisp, cool nights. The brilliant changing of the leaves. The craving of soothing hot cocoa. The smell of pumpkin, mingled with cinnamon and other spices, filling the air. The sounds of carefree children giggling as they dance amidst scattered leaves. Snuggling under soft, cozy covers of your bed late at night and early in the morning.
Even though September can be a busy time with all the new changes and schedules to adjust to, especially when you have young ones who adore playing soccer, it is still relatively calm compared to the hustle and bustle that begins with Halloween and ramps up even more when you celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas.
So today I celebrated September and embraced all it means to me. I indulged in a steaming cup of hot cocoa, complete with whipped cream and drizzled chocolate on top. Combine that with the gentle breeze that was blowing, the few rain drops that were coming down, and seeing some trees starting to change color and I was momentarily in heaven.
A “Happy Fall” card that seven year old Keri spontaneously made for me.
Do you have a favorite month or season?

I love fall too! I love the excuse to make the yummy pumpkin bread that you gave me the recipe for. My other favorite is Spring because of the excitement of the newness of life and the message of hope that is in the air.

I’m in love now! What a beautiful post. I could almost taste your hot cocoa and smell the cool air and see the changing leaves as I read. You have a talent for writing, my friend.

Autumn is my favorite as well. I love getting out the sweaters as the weather cools off, seeing the leaves change, and watching the days get shorter. I know it sounds crazy, but I also like the rain in Autumn. Before it really sets in for good, it’s very refreshing.

Amen!
Wish I could’ve been there celebrating with you! And wow, Keri’s artisitic abilities are really shining through in that card – what a wonder!

Your post was good at describing all the fun things Autumn brings. I love it too. I like the change from hot days to cooler days and those chilly nights watching football games and of course, hot cocoa. Yum!

I love September, too. I get birthday presents!!
My favorite time of the year is the spring. Everything comes back to life in the spring. I really enjoy all of the seasons because I grew up in Florida where there is summer and mild summer!

I totally agree with you…fall is my FAVORITE!
I am lucky enough to live in New England, and I love it, especially in the fall!
Bringing out the blankets, and snuggling under them in the morning, but beautiful days to enjoy….the smell of the leaves and apples in the air make it seem crisp, alive, vibrant!
The beauty of the leaves prepares you for the long winter with no leaves….suddenly as you drive down the road, the gorgeous reds, yellows, and oranges catch your eye, and you can’t help but smile, no matter what is going on in your life.

autumn is my favorite season as well, but if i had to pick a month it would probably be october. at least around here, september isn’t cool enough to feel like fall. nevertheless, i still try to feed my family soups and chilis as soon as august is over. nevermind that it’s 95 degrees outside.
i love the food, the weather, the holidays, the clothes, the anticipation of more holidays . . . it’s the best.

I’m divided between spring and fall. Every spring, I promise myself it is my favorite. But then fall rolls around after a hot summer and I change my mind. In Colorado, we are having an amazingly beautiful fall and I’m excited to go to Boston next week to see all the colors!

I love fall too. For me it means pulling out my favorite sweaters, being able to knit large wool projects again, and hot cereal for breakfast.
