Yesterday afternoon I had another ultrasound to see how this little fellow is faring. Let me tell you he is growing like a weed. He is now in the 99th percentile … yes I typed that right.
I am 36 weeks along and he is already supposedly OVER 8 pounds and his head circumference is 35 centimeters. In the last 25 days he has gained more than 3 pounds. Apparently I grow ginormous babies, not just big babies.
As soon as my perinatologists viewed the ultrasound results, they immediately began talking to me about changing my July 17th medical induction date. As of now the plan is to do an amniocentesis the morning of July 8th and as long as his lungs are mature, they will begin the induction that night or the next morning.
I’m not sure if I am quite ready to have a newborn in less than two weeks. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to meet and cuddle this little guy, but there were some other things I wanted to accomplish in the few weeks I thought I had left – like getting a pedicure, reading my new book and relaxing in general.
But that’s OK, we will merely adjust our plans.
And I hope an earlier induction date doesn’t make my labor super long and hard. I will just continue to say my prayers that all will work out according to the Lord’s plans.
Wow, in 13 days I might be holding my sweet little newborn!?! That is kind of exciting … overwhelming, yet still exciting.

Oh my goodness!!! That has to be the biggest baby on record!
But to make you feel better…two days before my son was born, they did an ultrasound. Due to my gestational diabetes, they told me that if he appeared to be over 9 lbs, they would not let me deliver vaginally because he would have trauma from it. They measured him in the ultrasound as just about 10 lbs.
2 days later he came out at 8 lbs, 4 oz. I know he didnt loose 2 lbs in there!!!
Sounds like your little guy will be a big guy from day one, but have no fear. You can get through this, and soon your adorable little one with be with you…I bet the kids can’t wait.
Oooh, and make your husband give you a pedicure while you wait out the induction…two birds with one stone!!!

Two weeks! That’s all you have left now? I hope for your sake the baby isn’t that big and that it all goes well.
June 25, 2008 at 1:52 PM
Wow!! I’m excited for you and jealous for me – I’m due 7-19 and have a ways to go. Good luck!

my daughter decided to come spontaneously a week before her scheduled c-section. it messed up my mom’s flight plans, my hair appointment, pedicure, and baby shower. at least you get to know ahead of time that he might come on the 8th instead of the 17th. but i’m with you–i always have a little anxiety in the last few weeks, wishing that i could get more done before that baby joins our family and everything changes again! the good news is, it sounds like you aren’t getting much done anyway, so . . . .:)

Man, your docs are nice. One month before my ultrasound the baby was already estimated to be 9 pounds 5 ounces, but would they induce me early? Only one day early! Ridiculous huh? Especially with my record. She came out at 10 pounds 2 ounces. I hope I don’t have one any bigger than that.
Good luck on getting everything you need to, accomplished before meeting your little one.
June 25, 2008 at 2:24 PM
Oops, I meant, one month before my due date.
June 25, 2008 at 2:31 PM
I held my breath a bit as I read, selfishly praying the induction date would be -after- this weekend. Wow though…that’s soon!
June 25, 2008 at 2:33 PM
Wow! Thank heavens for modern technology. I’m with Ambulance Mommy–get a pedicure during labor. Make sure a foot massage is included!
June 25, 2008 at 2:49 PM
How exciting to be meeting him so soon! I hope all goes well! All it took for both my boys was scheduling the induction and then they came on their own before that and were plenty big!
June 25, 2008 at 2:50 PM
How exciting, yet scary all at the same time! Its at these times where feelings get all mixed up. I am sure you are miserable (I was at this point in my pregnancy), but to have him come sooner than what you expected can be a little unnerving! Good luck with everything. Hopefully he won’t be too big, and your delivery will go smoothly!
June 25, 2008 at 4:03 PM
Wow! I will be praying for you and your induction. Three of my four have been inductions and they’ve all gone well. Bun was induced 3 weeks early and his induction was pretty easy, so hopefully yours will be as well
Hang in there and enjoy your waning days of pregnancy
June 25, 2008 at 5:12 PM
I’ll pray for you that all will go well. Hope he’s not too huge! Good luck through all of this.

Can I have your Doctor? My first boy was 10 lbs. and a day early, my second was 7′11 (because she was a girl) my third was 9lbs (another boy) My due date is July 15th and by the feel of it this baby is over 8 lbs and possibly over 9. But my doctor is SO LAID BACK about it. I’m concerned. I don’t want to be birthing another 10lb child. It’s just not right!
June 25, 2008 at 6:52 PM
Oh and I was going to say the last 2 were induced and it went wonderfully well. Just remember your body has done this twice before and by the third time it will just happen so quickly you won’t even believe you just had a baby!
Good luck!
Hope I’m having mine the same day. (If I can convince my doctor.)

Oh, that is exciting and crazy. Good thing we didn’t put the shower off until after I get back and good thing Lucy VanPelt will be around.
Also, I can’t believe that you are growing a giant baby in that very little bump of yours.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a happy happy labour and delivery
Good luck..

How Exciting!!!!
I seem to grow them big as well. Although my doc never expected baby #2 to be 9 pounds 10 ounces. After she was born the staff kept saying, “That is a big baby.”
With that in mind, I am worried about the next one being a ten pounder.
Good Luck!!!! Can’t wait to hear about his birth story.
June 26, 2008 at 6:51 AM
Wow that is soon!
I am so not ready for my baby to come yet. After this weekend, it will be okay as I will have the nursery done by then. But I am 34 weeks so hopefully I have a little more time.
June 26, 2008 at 6:51 AM
Oh and they are telling me mine is a big one too. Probably because I have Gestational Diabetes.
June 26, 2008 at 8:43 AM
The eighth, wow! Good luck and I can’t wait to hear all about it!
June 26, 2008 at 1:17 PM
Wow, that does seem soon! But so exciting. I hope all goes well.
June 26, 2008 at 8:40 PM

Yay!!! Go get the pedicure.
Hope everything goes wonderfully!
June 27, 2008 at 10:27 AM
Wow! go get your mani and pedi yesterday! And take your book with you to try and read. Good thing your sister has her ticket changed. So happy she can help. We are all praying for you.
June 27, 2008 at 1:45 PM
That is exciting! I hope you get done what you need to before he comes, and that everything goes well for you both.
June 27, 2008 at 4:17 PM
Wow! Let’s hope for your sake that their estimate is a bit off. That’s a big baby to deliver! I can relate to big babies. My biggest was 9 lbs 14 oz delivered at 38 weeks (scheduled repeat c-section.) I can’t imagine how big she would have been had she cooked another 2 weeks!
Good luck and keep us posted!
June 27, 2008 at 4:21 PM
How exciting for you and your family! Newborns are so precious!
June 27, 2008 at 6:22 PM
YAY!! this is such fun news!!
i cannot wait to see this baby!
June 30, 2008 at 2:00 PM
How exciting! I can’t wait to see pictures! Are you going to post all the gorey details of your delivery? I want details!
June 30, 2008 at 4:32 PM
Oh that’s my vote–the 8th! It’s the best day of the whole year to be born you know. Good luck!
June 30, 2008 at 8:11 PM
I hope it works out perfectly for you!
July 1, 2008 at 12:27 PM
That is great…seriously!!! I know that’s probably overwhelming, but I’m so excited for you! I’m glad everything has gone well! (not easy of course, but good enough that you’ll get yourself a baby soon!)
July 1, 2008 at 4:13 PM
Wow! How wonderfully exciting. There is nothing that can compare to holding those new little spirits straight from Heaven. I am so happy for you. So for now just TRY to enjoy you last few weeks of being pregnant.
I always had to remind myself that no matter how hard that last little bit may seem, having your baby in was a whole lot easier than out. Ü smile
July 1, 2008 at 8:36 PM
Good luck! I know it’s a crazy time but enjoy it so you’re nice and rested for the new little one’s arrival. I love the arrival of a new baby. There’s nothing like it!
July 2, 2008 at 6:45 AM
Oh I love it when they give you news that your baby might be early instead of late. Ginormous babies are great by the way (spoken by a mom who’s given birth to two of them over 9 pounds). They are usually healthier right from the start and they don’t get RSV as often (not that it’s really RSV season yet).
I’m so happy for you that you’re almost done!

Are 8 lbs babies big babies??? I have five children. My oldest, a girl, was 7 lbs, 5 oz. My second, another girl, was 8 lbs 12 oz. Yes, your calculations are correct. A pound and a half bigger. My third, a boy, was 9 lbs 10 oz and my easiest delivery. My fourth, another boy, was 9 lbs 3 oz and my fifth, another boy, was 9 lbs 9 oz. I will have to re-think my definition of “big babies”.
July 2, 2008 at 9:38 PM
Hmmm, any news?
December 16, 2008 at 12:28 PM
