An Energy Burst and Learning to Not Shrink
Recently I was bit by the spring cleaning/pregnancy nesting bug. I thought it would never happen. I am sure the bit of sunshine that briefly made its presence known in the western regions of Washington helped a ton.
Since I didn’t know how long this fleeting moment of pseudo energy might last, I knew I better take full advantage of it. Thankfully it stuck around for a few days so I could get lots of purging done in our apartment as we attempt to make room for our soon to be third little one. There were many loads of things donated to charity. I was greatly relieved to get these massive tasks done because they have been looming over my head for the past several months.
Next on the to-do list?
I need to transition Cory from the crib to the bottom bunk bed. I must admit I am not looking forward to the freedom this will give him. I LOVE having him contained at night and in the morning. Yes, I know I am more than extremely lucky that he lasted this long without wanting to climb out of his nightly prison.
And on a completely different topic, I recently attended a Women’s Conference where this quote was given. I have heard these powerful words of wisdom on other occasions, but for whatever reason, this time they just seemed to pierce my soul differently.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~ Marianne Williamson
So stand tall, stop doubting yourself and your talents and skills. Let your light shine and give others the “permission to do the same.” Just think of all we could accomplish if we would stop judging ourselves and others.

We have had the spring cleaning bug too! We’ve managed to clean out under both our beds and purge, purge, purge! It is such a great feeling.
I love that quote. But alas, it’s not going to help me find anything to do for the ward talent show

Too bad vaca is getting in the way of the ward talent show. I am shedding buckets of tears over this.

I love that quote.!It reminds of Sister Beck and how if we all did what we are capable of the world would be a diffrent better place! I cleaned out my closet last week and took 4 big bags of clothes to D.I It felt great! Good luck with the transition to the bed.

Way to go! I seems like we are constantly purging over here. I can’t quite figure out why.

i hate the transition to a bed. if it helps at all, one of my kids actually transitioned fairly seamlessly. the first couple of nights in his own bed he didn’t get up once (he has always been my best sleeper.) however, a year later, he is known to resist a nap when he sorely needs one, and comes to climb in bed with me at some point during most nights. we let him stay for two to five minutes and then send him back to bed.
loved the quote. that’s good to remember. i find myself apologizing for my strengths and my weaknesses, both. talk about self deprecating!

That quote is so beautiful and powerful. I hope I have the guts to take it to heart. Good luck with the bottom bunk bed!

That is absolutely one of my all time favorites. I have it printed out and I often refer to it. I have even printed it and given it to people that I think it would inspire.
I am thinking about having it printed in vinyl to adhere somewhere that I will see it often. I know that after awhile it will become part of the decor but maybe those people that come to visit that aren’t used to it will read it and be inspired.

It’s posts like this that tell me, you’re anything but just an ordinary mom. You are wonderful. Thank you for the reminder of that wonderful quote. I need to keep that one in mind.

My husband taught my boys how to climb out of their cribs. We always put them down asleep so night time wasn’t a problem, but they climbed out in the morning. Come to think of it, even if they weren’t asleep, they knew they were supposed to stay in the cribs at night. They could talk and sing just as well there!
I love the quote. Thanks for sharing it.

Good luck with the new bed. Change sure can be a challenge.
I love the quote. It’s amazing how hard it is to see our good qualities. I have such big dreams and aspirations for my own children. Would Heavenly Father feel any differently about His?

That conference was great. At first I thought I really wasn’t in the mood to listen to motivational speakers but in the end I guess I really needed the motivation.
I’m so glad you finally got that energy you’ve been needing/wanting. I know how precious it is!

Brilliant post, luv!
Don’t envy you making the bed switch. Becca’s still in the crib and I’m dreading giving her that freedom!

My dad’s birthday was yesterday-he would have been 90! Your quote reminded me of something he used to tell me from the time I was little–it didn’t sink til I was married and had a few kids of my own–be yourself-just be yourself and let God work through you and let your own light shine.
Have a great day.
Love you

I hear you on the spring purging. My mudroom has two huge boxes brimming with things to give away. More items are added daily.
I also hear you on the whole crib thing. My crib recently broke and we had to upgrade to a tot bed. Now Tank sneaks in and crawls in bed with us at 3 AM and we are too tired to kick him out. So we fall back asleep and let him kick us in his sleep.

You always post the best quotes! I’m glad you got that burst of energy!

One of my favorite quotes. We transitioned my son to the bottom bunk out of his crib… we found that glow in the dark stars stuck to the ribs of the top bunk worked wonders! He loves his night sky above. Great blog, can’t wait to read more. Amie

Where have I been?! Congratulations on the pregnancy. Guess I MUST read more, huh? Hope things are going well and maybe I can figure out the due date by reading back?

I’d keep my kids in their cribs until college if I could! Good luck with the transition! And thanks for posting that quote. I’ve heard it so many times before, but it never touched my heart the way it did today. It was just what I needed. You’re an inspiration!

I haven’t been to your blog for a while, so congratulations on your pregnancy! I’m just in my 13th week of pregnancy as well and just barely turning the corner into feeling slightly less exhausted and nauseous all the time. Which is why I haven’t been blogging or reading other blogs for while, well two months to be exact.
And funny enough, I hadn’t thought of it as nesting, but I realize it is now that you mention it. I’ve been deeply immersed in spring cleaning. Piles and piles and piles. It’s so therapeutic to get rid of stuff.
Also, the inspiring quote you posted, did you know that Nelson Mandela read that quote in his presidential inaugural speech? It’s beautiful.

Sounds like you made lots of progress. Which reminds me . . . my storage room is pathetic. I should follow suit!

Hi Lucy, Good for you - getting organized! I’ve been trying to do the same. Hope you are feeling well! Sandy
