The great state of Washington needs to make itself familiar with rent control laws … now.
We were just recently served with our 60 days notice that our rent is going to be increasing by nearly 17%.
Yes, you read that right. To me this seems ridiculously outrageous! I don’t know why our landlord believes money grows on trees. It doesn’t and it also doesn’t grow in the bioengineering labs where my husband is currently a doctoral student.
I think my landlord is on a quest to put in as little money as she can into her buildings, but then charge as much as she can get away with. She won’t even do 12 month leases because she might not get all the pennies she could possibly collect. I know this is a business she is running, but have some compassion. At least my manager fights for the little people. While our apartment is adequate, our petty 838 square feet isn’t exactly luxurious space that should require two arms and two legs and a head to live in.
I know, I know, I should be grateful I have a roof over my head … even if it is a very mossy and expensive roof.
