I despise canker sores and for whatever reason I used to be somewhat prone to getting them. I noticed they would plague me more often when I traveled and when I ate pineapple, lots of chocolate or spicy foods. Stress and lack of sleep also might have been contributing factors. Since I am not about to give up my love affair with chocolate or citrus fruit (I know what is good for me), I decided to add a 500 mg L-Lysine tablet to my daily multi-vitamin regimen. Now I am rarely afflicted with these bothersome and annoying sores.
In case you were wondering, both Costco and Trader Joe’s sell Lysine for a decent price.

A friend told me about this years ago! It works wonderfully. I, along with you, always make sure that I am stocked with Lysine! It is awesome!

This is a great tip! I worked in dentistry for about ten years and another one that I learned was if you get a canker sore, rinse and swish your mouth with warm salt water. 1 tsp to a full glass of water, rinse, spit, rinse, spit, until the glass is empty. It will cure them in a day or two.

Lysine also works wonders for cold sores. My husband gets cold sores, and whenever he thinks he might have one coming on, he pops a Lysine tablet. Most of the time, the cold sore never even emerges, and if it does, it has a very short life span.
Lysine rocks! (and it is WAY cheaper than Abreva and all those other cold sore medicines)

Great tip. I was wondering if they also worked for cold sores, which I started getting about 3 years ago (why me). Then I read Aimee’s comment, and I’m like W00t!
Thanks! I’ll buy me some today

I love the Lysine, but baking soda toothpaste does the trick too. It’s like magic. I’m a huge canker soar sufferer, so I know.

I will be trying this tip. Thank you SOOOO much. I get the awful canker sores all of the time. I even get them on the back of my throat and on my tonsils! Talk about painful (I have one there now).

Thanks for the tip. My mom, brother and I all get them a lot. I pass along the word. I have never heard of any kind of prevention before!

I used to take that every day! Luckily I don’t get them as much anymore. Glad it works for ya!
