1. You didn’t rest well the night before and consequently
you wake up with a raging headache and eyes that ache from lack of sleep.
2. You also woke up to the lovely sound of jackhammering at 6:53 in the morning.
3. The day is gloomy, dark and rainy.
4. You have to do an 11 point turn to get out of your parking space in the garage because the selfish and spiteful lady you park next to feels like she has to park 5 feet away from the wall even though the manager has told her that this is not acceptable.
5. You get all ready to go to the gym, drive there, get your 36 pound kid out of the car, go to the front desk and they inform you that the Kids Club Attendant has had a minor emergency and therefore there is no child watch for the day.
6. You fill up your tank and gas costs $3.39 a gallon.
7. You go to the grocery store and the coupons you used added $15.24 to your bill instead of helping you save money.
But then on the flip side, you know you deserve a hot chocolate when …
8. The assistant manager at the grocery store kindly and promptly refunded your money when you pointed out to her the computer’s mistake.
9. You gained an hour to your day because you didn’t have to exercise.
10. The rain stopped, the birds started chirping and the sun decided to show its warm and happy face, even if it was briefly.
11. You received some kind emails from a family member and a couple of dear friends which instantly added some cheer to your life.
12. You found a delightful chocolate you stashed in your coat pocket the other day.
13. Your swim suit that was on a back order for nearly a month finally got shipped and you will receive it in time for the swim party you are going to on Saturday.
When do you indulge?

When my three year old daughter escaped my attention for two minutes and smeared half a carton of strawberries into the living room floor, dumped milk on the kitchen floor, and finally got my attention by using my crochet hooks as drumsticks…on her sister’s head.
Two packs of peanut butter cups and a skor bar later…
~hugs~ Sorry it was a rough one, glad it got better. =)

I indulge at random. Anytime. Often. Spontaneously. I love to feel spoiled.
I’m so glad your day got brighter! We’ve had rain and clouds all day today and I started out feeling gloomy. My day got better, too.

I love how this list turned all positive at the end! And I was going to say, hey, at least you got some weight lifting in with the 36 pound child!

I’m glad that I’m not the only who has days like these. I’m sorry it was your “turn” today. I splurge whenever I feel in over my head. When something simple brings me to tears. When it’s either a splurge or a hair pull-out. When I know that something so simple as a hot chocolate will brighten my day.
Hope you have happier days to come!

Aw, man, I’m glad your day got better! I’m not as big a chocolate girl myself–just coffee and some kind of peanut butter concoction….

I love it that you found the positive in the otherwise uncool events of your day.
That forgotten chocolate was there for a reason

Too bad the hubby’s not around to help me answer this one. I’m not a fan of hot chocolate, but he loves it.

great list!! ugh, gas prices. I only got half a tank on 30 bucks in stopped filling up in silent protest. (i am only hurting myself, i know. but i couldn’t help it.) anyway, i guess i’d just have to say i always need hot chocolate! could use some right now in fact!! happy tt!!

OK, I bought 3 gallons of gas today. I refuse to buy more than that at one time until prices go down.
I also love that your list turned positive. Way to turn your day around.
The question isn’t “When do I indulge,” the question is “When DON’T I?”
May 2, 2007 at 7:49 PM
…but wait…your post assumes that there are times when it’s inappropriate to indulge in hot chocolate.
May 2, 2007 at 7:51 PM
That was very helpful. I didn’t know chocolates can do the job. I thought it added to the headaches as it is considered as a stimulant.
Mine is up too.

Are there times when you shouldnt indulge in a hot chocolate??? LOL.. I hope to indulge in one just after summer when the cold season starts back up.. But until then… I am on a Hot Chocolate free diet…
waahhhhh

Always? Not really, but generally in the winter at night before I go to bed. Either that or anytime I pass a 7/11. They’ve got great hot chocolate. Mmmm…
May 2, 2007 at 9:14 PM
That is so me the last few days, twice I’ve made trips to Barnes and Noble for a large hot chocolate with whipped cream. It’s made me very happy.
May 2, 2007 at 9:52 PM
Ugggh… I woke up with a headache this morning too, but it wasn’t to the sound of a jack hammer but that of a table saw. It sounds like your day improved though. Some hot chocolate would definitely make mine better.

We’re supposed to go away for the weekend in a few hours and my son’s running a high fever.
Pass the chocolate please…

Hell0 – I like that you turned this around in the second half.
Happy TT!

I always feel the need to indulge when I have had a particular stressful day with the kids…..bonking their heads and crying all day long, spilled orange juice and water all over the floor of the bathroom, my two year old constantly taking her clothes off, my 11 month old waking up at 4:00 am from the thunder and refusing to go back to sleep…..did I say I had a really bad day yesterday?
May 3, 2007 at 10:57 AM
Sounds like the world is giving us as mom’s a run for our money this week.
(The only thing missing on this list, probably because it didn’t happen to you, is if your daughter wakes up at midnight scared of the thunderstorm and she needs comfort. A big blanket, an open window to watch, and the chocolate. Nothin better.)
(Of course that couldn’t happen to you because it practically never thunders where you are. I missed it while I lived there.)

I like how you wrote this! I have hot chocolate every day. In the summer then I indulge in frozen hot chocolate from Schwan’s.
May 3, 2007 at 1:25 PM
I indulge almost daily with some sort of chocolate. Don’t they say it is so good for you? (especially DARK!)
May 3, 2007 at 1:31 PM
love your list! very clever turning it around like that… and positive thinking!
always a reason for anything chocolate in this house!
May 3, 2007 at 2:53 PM
Hot chocolate is equal unto diluted chocolate. I’d go for the real thing if I were you (even with all the positives out there.
May 3, 2007 at 5:17 PM
Thanks for the great laugh. Husband is out of town, 4 year old decided to poke knife holes in leather sofa while 2.5 year old was peeing on the floor. (9 and 7 year old were having cat fight), and neighbor rang doorbell to ask directions to the post office. Where is my hot chocolate when I need it???
May 3, 2007 at 9:38 PM
So, how much hot chocolate did it take?

May 3, 2007 at 10:32 PM
I gotta comment again. I ALMOST went to B&N again today but I was hesitant to dump another $3 into a large hot chocolate. Not to mention the calories.
Maybe tomorrow.

Now if you can still think about having that chocolate even AFTER your new swimsuit has arrived, well I would put that under the REASON TO CELEBRATE with chocolate list! I would have had to promptly put down either the chocolate – or more likely – the swim suit. Enjoy!

I loved this post. I can find almost any reason for a good cup of hot chocolate. And if you are ever in the Provo, Utah area (I am sure there are locations in other places too) the best hot chocolate can be found in the “Borders” store at the “Seattles Best Coffee”. Absolutely amazing! And to make it even better they top it off with chocolate. Anyway, thanks for the great read. Very entertaining!

At night when you’ve chatted with all your kids during the day and just realizing how amazing life really is.
Love you
MOM

Sweet comment from your mom, I’m gonna go have another slice of Chocolate Pie just on that!
I made one for my friends birthday today, double the recipe and wa-laa, one for me…err the family.
$3.00 gas, sadness
BTW No thank you on the tarantula either!
May 4, 2007 at 10:58 PM
I indulge whenever I walk past the pantry door.
May 5, 2007 at 8:41 AM
I love a nice warm cup of hot chocolate in the early, early morning when the sun is just rising and spreading its golden warmth over the earth and I’m studying my scriptures in undisturbed silence at my kitchen table.
May 5, 2007 at 8:42 AM
LOL – Eve, I love your comment.
May 5, 2007 at 1:10 PM
ON a FREEEEEEZING cold day like today, especially if you get to go to a soccer game.
I made your “perfect chocolate chip cookies” today, and even though I got distracted by one of the kids while I was counting out my nine cups of flour (triple batch, you know) and don’t know if I got all the amounts quite right, they turned out lovely. Now I just need to get them out of the house quickly so I won’t eat every single one of them. Maybe for VT/HT treats.
May 6, 2007 at 7:06 PM
Way to look on the positive side~
May 7, 2007 at 12:25 AM
I like to drink a cup of hot chocolate, especially if the day is dark, gloomy and rainy. It’s a good source of warmth for a cold day.
May 7, 2007 at 6:08 PM
I agree. It’s perfect on a cold day. Drinking a cup of hot chocolate brings back that lost strength consumed by the freezing cold environment.
