I think you can. When they become teenagers they will forget for a bit, but sometime around 20 or so they remember again. Funny how that works. Give it your best shot.
Fantastic! My husband was raised with a very strong work ethic but, being the youngest, not a very solid understanding of child development. He’s always asking me how long until we can give our 8 month old a list of chores. The other day he said “when can we take over all the dusting and sweeping? when he’s two years old?”
I laughed, but your picture made me grateful that my son is bound to learn young, which I believe will make a happier, more fulfilled person (not to mention a great husband!)
my kids ( 5 & 3) are always eager to help out with chores… I think it’s later as they grow older that they run away… now they just want to please theiy mommy and daddy anyway they can… ofcourse I suppose the curiosity and wonder of gadgets and everything else is also the deciding factor… great pic!
I have a toddler that voluntarily puts things in the washing machine too. Although it’s usually his Ninja Turtle action figures who he says needs a bath. My Papi also contributes adding to the washing machine. Things like Kleenex, ballpoint pens, toothpicks…..
Absolutely!!!! My two year old twins pick up their toys and put them back. They put their trash in the trash can and they help with the laundry too!
blessings and thanks for stopping by!
mine was an old church
Absolutly!!! Isn’t that our job??? To teach our children the skills they need to survive on their own someday? Learning begins before you are even born. If you think of it that way, laundry is a cake walk. I had a foster daughter that came to me when she was 16. She could not boil water, or do laundry. I even heard one mom say that her daughter did not know which side of the envelope the stamp went on!
Very cute! My girls were always eager until they realized it was work. They went from excited helpers to reluctant eye-rollers, but they’re both great kids!

My 3 year old loves to “fold laundry”. This means putting clothes in the washer or dryer. It’s priceless when they help this young.

Well done! Now, more importantly, when can you teach ironing!?~
March 27, 2007 at 10:40 PM
start them early and develop it into a habit. Shouldn’t be that hard right? [Yeah right!]

I’m sitting here wondering if my 10 year old would even admit to knowing where the washer is… Helping out is no longer considered fun!
