SMART Heaven - Chocolate and Laughter
Right now a dark chocolate chip truffle from See’s Candies
sounds heavenly … maybe even two. I am exhausted. It has been a long week. It hasn’t been a bad week, just a tiring one. I don’t understand why they call us stay at home mom’s. I don’t know about you but I feel like I am rarely home. If Keri doesn’t need to be picked up from school, then she needs to be taken to swimming lessons. If it is not the grocery store or Costco I am running to, then it is the library that is calling my name with books that are due. During the mad rush of the holiday season I thought life would slow down after it came and went. Wrong. I think it has slowly been speeding up. And how many times do we say to ourselves, this is an extenuating circumstance, things like this don’t come up all the time? Sure, that particular thing doesn’t happen all the time, but when you add up all the myriad of little things which suddenly pop up you will soon find that every day there is something out of the ordinary occurring. It makes me feel worn out just writing about it.
I did better this week about getting to bed on time … not perfect, but definitely an improvement over last week. Unfortunately I still feel like I need want more sleep. I am hoping I can sleep in tomorrow, especially since I had to get up early this morning because I was in charge of watching an extra munchkin for about 9 hours today. He was a darling and very polite 20 month old little boy, but I am grateful I don’t have two sets of diapers to change on a daily basis. But this weekend still has many opportunities for “abnormal” things to pop up. I have a baby shower to attend (kind of a cool theme, though - for the gift we are supposed to bring our favorite book from childhood) and we have an old friend coming to town … someone we haven’t seen in over half a decade! It should be a blast hanging out, but it still one more thing I have to think about it.
Moving on to a brighter subject. The new habit I started
last week, making my kids laugh on a daily basis, went really well. I thoroughly enjoyed the moments where it was just them and me existing. I know the moments didn’t last very long, something else was always soon vying for my attention, but for the nanoseconds in which I was able to focus completely on my children and block everything else out except making them laugh was like getting a taste of what heaven must be like. It was so refreshing to have a mind whose gears just stopped churning, grinding and spinning for the briefest of seconds. This is what peace and pure bliss must feel like.
This week I am still going to work on getting to bed on time and getting the amount of sleep I need. Obviously I am also going to continue indulging in my daily laugh sessions with Keri and Cory. As far as a new habit goes, I think I am going to rededicate myself to drinking at least 48 ounces of water a day. With everything that has been going on, eating healthy has gotten a little forgotten … it has a few cobwebs and dust collecting on it. Not eating junk on two different days during the week is going fine, but I also might change that up so I don’t find too much joy in eating treats on the days that I am allowed to eat them.
So here’s to a water-filled, giggling, fully-rested week!

I’m really mad at you! Just because I post peanut butter chocolate cookies on my blog doesn’t mean you have to post pictures of chocolate on your blog. I live way too far away from the store to go buy any!
I guess I get to be your first commenter unless someone pushes me. That happens you know!
You people and your water posts make me so thirsty!!!

I’m thirsty now, too!!
I love your goal of making your kids laugh. I tried it this week, too, and it was so fun to search for opportunities to make them laugh. It made me be creative and think of what they might like, that would make them laugh. Thanks for the suggestion!

That sounds like a heavenly week alright. So glad I’ve already brushed my teeth though or that picture would’ve had me scrounging around in the junk food drawer.
Good luck this week!

It truely does sound like heaven!
You are doing such a great job with your habits. I haven’t posted mine yet and I’m not sure I’ll get to it today, but I just wanted to stop in and say hello! Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend. Love the gift for the baby shower…how fun!

Hello! I’ve been by before… maybe from 5minutesformom… maybe from wordpress, not sure. I do like your blog, though. I was wondering if you like your wordpress blog… I’m at live spaces right now and it’s a bit confining…WP seems to be a lot of inofrmation to take in, though!

For the things that I want to accomplish in the week, I have started doing a 5×5… 5 things I accomplished last week, and 5 things I want to do next… so far so good! Some things I don’t accomplish, but there are others that didn’t get put on the list that do, so it equals out and keeps me on my toes!
Come by for the party if you like!

I understand what you mean. Yesterday was crazy, five trips to the school. FIVE! That’s 50 miles just to the school. Ugh, I feel like I have a car’s seat permanently attached to my behind.

It’s true…the “stay at home mom” title just makes me laugh! It gets so hard to run errands with two now as well…so I just want to be home! UGH! Loved the post!

I really like your laughing goal. It really is special to enjoy those fleeting moments - and life really does get too harried and serious too often.
Go get yourself some chocolate and enjoy some sleep!

Love reading your blog! Who ever coined the phrase “stay at home mom” must have lived in the 1800’s. But then all moms stayed home. Daniel said my license plate should say mom and grandma taxi-at your service.
