Sunday Sundries – “Behold Your Little Ones”

As I was reading our Church’s conference magazine, I happened upon an article pertaining to children and motherhood, “Behold Your Little Ones.”  Here is a quote that really caused me to stop and think.

“[As mothers] ‘we are the ones God has appointed to encircle today’s children with love and the fire of faith and an understanding of who they are.’ … As a mother … I know this work with children is not easy.  Protecting, teaching, and loving children can be demanding, often discouraging, sometimes exhausting, and occasionally the fruits of our efforts are long delayed.  But it is precisely because it is not easy to bring children to the Savior that we must come to Him ourselves.” (M. Russell Ballard and Margaret S. Lifferth)

What a daunting yet awe-inspiring and sacred task we have been given.  These precious little spirits that God has loaned to us may at times bring out our worst side, but they so desperately need us and all we have to offer.  They need us to teach them, they need us to love them, they need us to forgive them, they need us to give them the benefit of the doubt, they need us to harbor them from the evils of the world.  Above all they need us to be the most noble mothers that we can possibly be and the only way I know how to do that is to seek strength, guidance and inspiration from the Lord on a daily and hourly basis.
